SAN JOSE – A driver hit and killed a pedestrian Tuesday afternoon in San Jose, according to authorities.

The fatal collision happened around 4:20 p.m. at Camden and Leigh avenues, the San Jose Police Department said in a social media post.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the pedestrian’s identity once it is confirmed and their next of kin is notified.

The death marked the city’s 30th traffic fatality of the year. At this time last year, San Jose had recorded 29 roadway deaths.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation, police said.

As of 6:15 p.m., the intersection was closed in all directions. Police asked the public to avoid the area.
