SAN MATEO — A woman who was nine months pregnant was found dead in her Peninsula home Sunday evening, and her live-in boyfriend was arrested hours later in Southern California on suspicion of killing her, authorities said.

San Mateo police officers were called just after 6 p.m. to a home in the 1300 block of B Street for a report of a pregnant woman in “full arrest,” and to tend to a growing gathering of despondent relatives, police said.

On-scene paramedics pronounced the 37-year-old woman dead at the home, along with her unborn child, police said. Investigators quickly deemed the deaths suspicious and cited witness accounts and “evidence found at the scene” in identifying the woman’s live-in boyfriend, 33-year-old Andrew Coleman, as the likely suspect.

Police confirmed Monday that Coleman was the father of the child.

A cause of death was not disclosed by police, who also did not state when they believe the deaths occurred. The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office had not released the woman’s identity as of Monday afternoon

Coleman was not at the scene when police arrived, but an ensuing investigation found signs that he drove toward Southern California.

After San Mateo police alerted law enforcement to Coleman’s possible whereabouts in the Los Angeles area, he was arrested in West Covina, police said.

It was not immediately clear where Coleman was being held as of Monday; the Los Angeles County jail system did not have a record for him. But police said San Mateo investigators traveled to Southern California to interrogate Coleman.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
