Mill Valley resident Jessica Schiller mounted a water bicycle on Friday for a 10-hour one-way journey from Sausalito to the Farallon Islands.

The ride was dedicated to her daughter Naomi, who died from a fentanyl overdose in 2022. Schiller traveled across rough waters to the Farallones, which are 30 miles west of the Golden Gate Bridge. Her daughter had long encouraged her to make the trip.

“Naomi’s Ride” was intended to raise awareness of fentanyl and to benefit Shatterproof, a nonprofit that assists people with substance use disorders.
