OAKLAND — A man free on his own recognizance pending prosecution for a San Leandro robbery has been charged with 12 new felony counts in connection with the robberies and attempted robbery of five Oakland businesses in August and September, according to authorities and court documents.

The 21-year-old suspect has pleaded not guilty to the new charges and is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on Oct. 8. He is being held in lieu of $445,00 bail at Santa Rita Jail.

The 12 new felony charges include four counts of second degree robbery, one count of attempted second degree robbery, five counts of carrying a concealed firearm, one count of carrying a loaded firearm in public and one count of carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle.

He is accused of attempting to rob a wireless store on Aug. 30 and then of robbing a street vendor of product and cash about an hour later.

He is also charged with robbing a fast-food restaurant on Aug. 31, another fast-food restaurant on Sept. 18 and a market on Sept. 22.

He was arrested Sept. 23.

In a news release Thursday announcing the new charges being filed, District Attorney Pamela Price said, “Targeting businesses and their employees who are just trying to earn a living for themselves and their families will not be tolerated in Alameda County. Using a gun to commit robberies adds an additional layer of danger to the employer, the workers, and their customers. My office will continue to hold people accountable for committing these crimes in our community.”

According to court records, at the time of the Oakland robberies, the suspect was free on his own recognizance after being arrested on suspicion of committing a Jan. 4, 2024 armed robbery of a San Leandro fast-food restaurant. He was arrested the same day of that robbery and charged with second degree robbery and carrying a loaded firearm on one’s person in a city.

He pleaded not guilty to those charges on Feb. 14 and was released from custody on his own recognizance on April 25, according to court records.
