CAMPBELL — An armed suspect was arrested and booked in the Santa Clara County Main Jail after a standoff with Campbell police officers Sunday morning.
Officers responded to the 200 block of Union Avenue at 4:53 a.m. Sunday on reports of a disturbance and gun shots. Once on scene, officers determined a gun had been fired in an occupied home, but no one was struck or reported injured, according to a press release.
Officers were unable to make contact with the suspect, a 33-year-old with prior felony convictions for grand theft, criminal threats, and negligent discharge of a firearm, and decided to evacuate the surrounding area out of an abundance of caution.
The department’s SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were activated, and the suspected was coaxed out of the home and taken into custody without further incident about 10:15 a.m., more than five hours after officers first responded to the home.
An unregistered semi-automatic handgun was recovered at the scene. The suspect was booked for being a felon in possession of a firearm, shooting into an occupied dwelling and possessing an unregistered firearm.

This incident serves as a reminder of the risks our officers face daily and their commitment to protecting Campbell residents.”
