Shooting in West Oakland kills one, injures another

OAKLAND — One person was killed and another wounded during a shooting in West Oakland on Friday morning, police said.

The gunfire happened in the 1400 block of Filbert Street about 12:07 a.m., according to police. Police have not said whether the shooting happened inside a residence or outside.

Authorities did not release the name of the victim immediately, pending the investigation and notification of relatives. Police said they believe he is 19 years old.

The wounded man is believed to be in his 40s, police said. It was not known immediately whether the two men who were shot knew each other.

An ambulance rushed both men to a hospital. The younger man died there.

Police have not made any arrests, nor did they say what they believe the motive to be. They did not have any information about a suspect.

The homicide investigation is the 24th of the year investigated by Oakland police. A year ago at this time, police had investigated 20 homicides.
