FREMONT — An investigation is underway into a deadly dog attack last month at Central Park in Fremont, police said.

The incident happened at 2:40 p.m. on Oct. 23, according to the Fremont Police Department.

Police said a medium-sized dog attacked a small dog near Lake Elizabeth. Both canines were with their owners, but the larger dog was off-leash while the smaller dog was on-leash.

The small dog was taken to a veterinarian and later died from its injuries, police said.

The police department’s animal services unit is working with the owner of the dog that died, but has not been able to identify the other canine or its owner, police said.

Police released a photo of the dog on Thursday, describing it as a Cane Corso or pit bull.

Anyone with information related to the case can contact the animal services unit at 510-790-6635 or animalservices@fremont.gov.
