OAKLAND – A person was hit by a BART train Wednesday in Oakland, officials said.
The incident happened around 5:40 p.m. at the 12th Street Oakland City Center Station, according to BART spokesperson Chris Filippi.
“Someone entered the trackway for an unknown reason and was contacted by a train,” Filippi said in a recorded message. “The person was removed alive from the trackway and taken to a hospital.”
An update on the person’s condition was not available.
The station remained open following the incident, but trains running in the Antioch and Richmond directions did not make stops there for about an hour. Normal service resumed around 6:50 p.m.
Check back for updates.
