SAN JOSE — A three-alarm fire broke out at a Buddhist temple early Monday morning, causing part of the roof to collapse, authorities said.
The blaze was called in around 5:37 a.m. for the mixed-use, two-story structure located on the 90 block of Foss Avenue, according to the San Jose Fire Department.
The temple, Chua Duyen Giac, was previously damaged by a fire that broke out in May 2024, displacing four people. The investigation into the second fire will look at whether there was a connection between the two blazes, said Hannah Denys, a SJFD spokesperson.
The fire was brought under control around 6:59 a.m., Denys said.

Fire officials said crews fought the flames using aerial master streams. They also secured the building’s utilities.
The damage to the structure is expected to make it a total loss, Denys said.
There were no people in the building when the fire broke out and no reported injuries, authorities said.
Foss Avenue was closed to vehicles while firefighters worked on the blaze, authorities added. Traffic lights that went out on Alum Rock Avenue between Highway 680 and Sunset Avenue also caused “significantly impacted” traffic.
Firefighters began to leave the scene and authorities were preparing to reopen roads around 7:30 a.m., authorities said.
