Police are still searching for suspects in a Sunday armed robbery during which two teenagers were shot at the Santa Rosa Transit Mall, authorities said.

Officers responded about 6:30 p.m. to multiple reports of a shooting on 500 Second Street and found a 15-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound, with an entry and exit point through his upper shoulder and mid-back, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Patricia Seffens said Monday. The teenager received medical aid and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

At about 6:45 p.m., three other teenagers who were friends with the 15-year-old arrived at the police department on Sonoma Avenue and reported the shooting. One of the teens, a 14-year-old boy, had a minor grazing gunshot wound on his waist. He was also taken to a hospital.

Both boys were later medically cleared and released, Seffens said.

Based on a preliminary investigation, officers determined that the four teenagers were waiting for a bus at the transit mall when two men in dark clothing and ski masks approached and demanded they hand over their belongings. One of the men held up a gun during the robbery and struck the side of the 15-year-old’s head with it before shooting him in the shoulder, police said. Investigators believe the same bullet grazed the 14-year-old’s waist.

The two men then fled south toward Juilliard Park, Seffens said, carrying items stolen from the teenagers. Authorities searched the area using a police K9 and Sonoma County Sheriff’s helicopter Henry-1 but were unable to find the suspects or the firearm.

Santa Rosa police closed the transit mall Sunday night as they investigated.

The agency is asking that anyone with information on the shooting and robbery contact the department’s violent crimes tip line at 707-543-3590 or submit a tip anonymously online at srcity.org/CrimeTips.

The Sonoma County Alliance Community Engagement and Safety Rewards Fund is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspects.
