GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) – The Mullica Hill Triathlon Club has had two cyclists hit by cars over the past two weeks. Both drivers did not stop.
Club officials now want the safety of cyclists on the road.
Misty Price is still in excruciating pain. Her right arm is injured and her left arm is bandaged after breaking her radius and developing a rash.
"She was suddenly on her floor trying to get up," said Price.
She died last weekend, Alloway in Township, Quinton, after she was hit by a car while she was biking on the road, she underwent surgery and her helmet saved her life. may have saved the Price said the driver never stopped.
"I would appreciate it if he or she turned himself in," she said.
A week ago there was another hit and run about 10 miles away. Jenna McEntee was cycling the Kings Highway in Woolwich Township. Her bike crashed into a cornfield when she was rear-ended from behind her.
McEntee has been hospitalized for eight days and has a long road ahead of him.
Both women are members of the Mullica Hill Women's Triathlon Club.
"That's the rear tire I got hit by a car about seven years ago," McEntee said.
Now the club's founders and other members argue that drivers should obey traffic rules before someone else is seriously injured.
Club founder Colleen Fossett said:
"No airbags. I have a helmet that I want to wear properly, but that's it," said Natalie Mathias.
March, New Jersey's Safe Passing Law went into effect, requiring drivers to alternate or keep four feet (4 feet) between cyclists and pedestrians whenever possible.
Price hopes her story will help raise awareness for her.
"Cyclists are everywhere," Price said. "I think it's time for us to drive and people are becoming more aware of that,"
New Jersey State Police told CBS 3 of her driver who hit McEntee. said he was arrested and charged. However, Price was not arrested. Still investigating.
