No. 12 Campolindo 30, Aptos 22

After last year’s 49-0 drubbing at home against Aptos, there was no game Campolindo wanted more. The Cougars got their revenge by scoring two fourth-quarter touchdowns to erase a 22-16 deficit. “We’re pretty ecstatic at how the kids played,” coach Kevin Macy said by phone from the team bus as it barreled through San Jose on the way home to Moraga. “We wore them down in the fourth quarter. Last year that didn’t happen.” Fourth-period touchdowns by Robbie Mascheroni and Lucas Concepcion were the difference. Concepcion had two TDs for the Cougars. Macy said Concepcion had a big night running the ball. “Last year we couldn’t run on them,” Macy said. Campolindo managed only 40 yards rushing in that loss. Friday night’s rematch didn’t get off to a good start for the Cougars, who were intercepted on their first three possessions. But quarterback Dashiell Weaver settled down after that. Still, Campo trailed 14-2 until scoring its first touchdown right before the half. “The biggest thing was the drive before the half,” Macy said. Campo improved to 2-0 and Aptos fell to 1-1. The Cougars remain on the road for the next two Fridays with games at Windsor and San Leandro. – Mike Lefkow

No. 13 El Cerrito 27, Freedom 13

Freedom led 6-0 early courtesy of two field goals by kicker Justin Dallas, but El Cerrito’s offense had an answer ready in the second quarter. Tony McAdoo and Tome Veukiso each had a touchdown to give El Cerrito a 14-6 halftime lead. Gavin Thompson and Michael Vanhook added to El Cerrito’s advantage as the Gauchos won at home in a non-league game. Samaje Featherstone had Freedom’s only touchdown. El Cerrito improved to 2-0, Freedom fell to 0-2. – Jesús Cano

No. 16 Heritage 54, Granada 14

Another Heritage win, another strong performance by Devon Rivers. After becoming Heritage’s career touchdown leader in last week’s victory, the Fresno State-bound running back had four TDs in a non-league win on the road over Granada. Quarterback Austin Peters completed 6 of 11 passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns. Jeremiah Ruffin, Brooks Davis, Jayson Gripe and Brock Lombardi each contributed one touchdown for the Patriots, who improved to 2-0. Granada’s Quinn Boyd had a touchdown pass to Christian Clouser. The Matadors dropped to 0-2. – Jesús Cano

Berkeley 39, American 24

Berkeley, playing at home, picked up its first win of the season in a non-league game against American on Thursday night. The Yellowjackets did it behind strong performances from quarterback Drew Henderson and wide receiver Jackson Harris. Henderson completed 12 of 18 passes and threw five touchdowns, four to Harris and one to BJ Thurman. “I am so proud of the way our team responded,” Berkeley coach David  Perry said. “The bond is becoming stronger every game!” Berkeley improved to 1-1. Damiann Gomez threw for a touchdown and ran for another, while Jaxen Robinson passed for 171 yards and two scores. Steven Juarez ran for 37 yards and a touchdown, and Eric Argumedo led the team with 47 yards on the ground. Jaterius Lee had his one reception go for 75 yards and the score.
