Novato police have arrested a man they say tried to heave a boulder at someone in a dispute over a cellphone.
Officers were called to a bus terminal in the 1400 block of North Hamilton Parkway at 11:15 a.m. Monday to investigate a report of someone “throwing rocks and yelling at passing cars,” said police Lt. Sophia Winter.
Officers found 18-year-old Anthony Stamps II, who “matched the description of the subject,” and was apparently intoxicated, Winter said.
Stamps and another man had gotten into a tussle after Stamps accused the other man of stealing his cellphone, Winter said.
The man told police “that Stamps had thrown a large boulder at his head,” Winters said.
Police arrested Stamps on suspicion of felony assault and using a controlled substance. He remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of $50,000 bail.
The victim was not injured, Winter said. Police did not find the phone.
