Advocacy lecture
Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian, who represents Los Gatos, is giving a lecture Nov. 16 on advocacy in partnership with the environmental nonprofit Acterra. As part of the nonprofit’s ongoing lecture series on environmentalism, Simitian will present tips from his policymaking perspective on how activists can effectively make their voices heard. The free talk is open to all members of the public, but registration is required online at https://tinyurl.com/SimitianLecture. Residents can attend in-person at The Foster, located at 940 Commercial St. in Palo Alto, or online via Zoom. The lecture begins at 6:30 p.m.
YSI programs
Great news for budding young environmental scientists in the South Bay: The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors has re-upped its partnership with the nonprofit Youth Science Institute to lead educational programs at two local parks. The programs will continue for the next five years at Vasona Lake County Park in Los Gatos and Sanborn County Park in Saratoga. The renewed partnership went into effect last month.
‘Terra Firma’ talk
New Museum Los Gatos is allowing residents to peek behind the canvas of the “Terra Firma” exhibition on Thursday, Nov. 17. The exhibition, which probes the relationship between people and land, opened last month and will run through March 2023. From 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the museum is hosting a free virtual talk with the artists behind the exhibition. To access the Zoom link, register online at https://www.numulosgatos.org/events.
Tree lighting
Whether your Halloween candy stock has depleted or you still have a ways to go, there’s no denying that the holiday season is fast approaching. To help usher in the new season, the Town of Los Gatos has set a date for its annual tree lighting ceremony in Plaza Park. This year, the ceremony will take place Friday, Dec. 2, 5-7 p.m.
