Bank on the holidays
The Saratoga Area Senior Coordinating Council (SASCC) is offering a little local history for the holidays. The SASCC is selling ornaments that feature the former Saratoga State Bank building, which for 50 years has served as a cocktail lounge known as The Bank.
The building was designed by the architectural firm of Wolfe and McKenzie and built in 1913. It was first the Saratoga National Bank, founded by Dr. Hogg, a local investor, and Charles Blaney, who established Blaney Plaza at the Saratoga Village entrance. It became the Garden City Bank in 1917 and was later a Bank of America until 1958. The building has also served as a real estate office and an insurance office. In 1972, Leonard Sullivan and his wife Lou opened a bar in the space.
Ornaments are $15 at https://www.sascc.org/sascc-shop. All proceeds go to the nonprofit SASCC.
Arts for students
After an extended hiatus due to the pandemic, Montalvo Arts Center is bringing back its Performing Arts Series for Students with three shows in spring 2023.
These live performances, targeted for elementary school students, are held in Montalvo’s indoor Carriage House Theatre and feature local artists. The shows offer exposure to the arts and a launching point for a classroom or homeschool curriculum.
Tickets are $9 per person at https://montalvoarts.org/learn/pass, and classroom blocks can be reserved. Two performances of each event are available.
