Winter welcome walk
The California Native Plant Society, the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society, and the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority are organizing a walk Dec. 17 to celebrate the first day of winter and identify birds and plants in Lake Cunningham Regional Park.
Lake Cunningham is a major destination for waterfowl and migratory birds, and its native garden provides valuable habitat to many species. On this walk, a docent will show beginners how to identify the common birds of the area, and another docent will point out the native plants they depend on for food, shelter and nesting places. This walk is 4 miles round trip on a level path. Bring a hat, water, your bird and plant list and binoculars, and wear comfortable walking shoes.
Lake Cunningham Regional Park is located at 2305 S. White Road, San Jose. Walkers should meet at the Marina Building next to Raging Waters at 9 a.m. Parking fee is $6.
Registration is required to https://www.meetup.com/california-native-plant-society-santa-clara-valley-chapter/events.
