Stratford gives back

Silicon Valley and Tri-Valley area Stratford Schools this month donated $9,000 to the Lotus Petal Foundation, a nonprofit that provides education and supplies to children and adults in India, in honor of Giving Tuesday.

Since 2017, Stratford, which has two campuses in Sunnyvale, has contributed the proceeds from the 1001 Stories campus clubs to the foundation and raised additional funds through purchases of Stratford student-written books and by sponsoring a child directly through the foundation.

Lotus Petal was set to host a “One World, One Community” online event Dec. 2 to accept Stratford School’s donation.

Winter welcome walk

The California Native Plant Society, the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society, and the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority are organizing a walk Dec. 17 to celebrate the first day of winter and identify birds and plants in Lake Cunningham Regional Park.

On this walk, a docent will show beginners how to identify the common birds of the area, and another docent will point out the native plants they depend on for food, shelter and nesting places. This walk is 4 miles round trip on a level path. Bring a hat, water, your bird and plant list and binoculars, and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Lake Cunningham Regional Park is located at 2305 S. White Road, San Jose. Walkers should meet at the Marina Building next to Raging Waters at 9 a.m. Parking fee is $6.

Registration is required to https://www.meetup.com/california-native-plant-society-santa-clara-valley-chapter/events.
