BERKELEY — A Berkeley man has been charged with felony assault for allegedly attacking an Amazon delivery driver, chipping the victim’s tooth, court records show.

The 30-year-old Berkeley resident was arrested Nov. 27 and charged two days later with felony assault likely to produce great bodily injury. Police say he approached a driver on the 1600 block of University Avenue, struck up a conversation, then punched the man in the face, chipping his tooth.

Police arrested the man two blocks away at a University Avenue hotel where he was living, according to court records. He has also been charged with misdemeanor battery in connection with a similar attack that occurred earlier in the day on the 2500 block of Durant Avenue.

Police say the man was identified by witnesses and because the Amazon delivery truck was equipped with a camera that captured the attack. There was no apparent motive in either attack, according to authorities.
