Boys basketball
No. 9 Moreau Catholic 79, James Logan 53
Moreau started Mission Valley Athletic League play on the road Tuesday night with a comfortable victory over James Logan, which lost its fifth consecutive game to begin the season.
Four Moreau players scored in double figures, led by Tyler Bailey with 14. The Mariners also got 10 points apiece from Kevin Chapman, Dominic Walker and Kareem Jackson Jr. as they improved to 3-1.
Moreau opened the season with victories over Vanden 56-52 and Oakland Tech 75-54 and was coming off a 61-54 loss to Laguna Creek.
James Logan has losses against Amador Valley, Serra, Sacramento and Marin Catholic, three by single digits, one in overtime.
No. 13 Oakland Tech 79, Pittsburg 72
Ardarius Grayson finished with 24 points and Ahmed Gulaid added 15 as the Bulldogs won on the road over Pittsburg in a non-league game. Ethan Silberzweig (13 points) and Saddiq Alarbesh (11) also scored in double figures for Tech, which ran its record to 3-1.
Pittsburg is 2-3.
Los Gatos 60, Christopher 46
Los Gatos won the opener of its tournament behind 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting from Nolan G. Koch and 11 points from Max Brin as the Wildcats improved their record to 4-1.
Christopher fell to 1-3.
Los Gatos will play Menlo School on Thursday.
Menlo School 51, Leigh 37
Tate Cohen had 20 points and six rebounds as Menlo won its season opener with a victory over Leigh at the Los Gatos tournament. The Knights also got 13 points and five rebounds from Ethan Zhao and 11 points and six rebounds from Sam Reznik.
Caleb Asante had 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting for Leigh, which fell to 1-2.
American 71, Newark Memorial 42
Kiratraj Sanghera finished with 23 points as American, playing at home in Fremont, prevailed in its MVAL opener against Newark Memorial. Arman Mahavni (16 points), Dylan JaWei Lee (12) and Jordan Bucko (11) also scored in double figures for the Eagles, who improved to 4-0.
Newark Memorial is 1-4.

San Ramon Valley, which moved up to No. 3 in the latest Bay Area News Group rankings, lost for the first time this season as the Wolves fell at Redwood 62-52. Redwood improved to 4-0.
Girls basketball
No. 2 San Ramon Valley 61, No. 13 St. Ignatius 43
Sierra Chambers scored 21 points and handed out five assists as San Ramon Valley prevailed on the road over St. Ignatius to improve to 4-1 on the season. Sofia Bowes (10 points, six rebounds, four assists) and Avery Knapp (10 points, six rebounds, four assists) also helped lead the way.
The Wolves also got 10 points from Amanda Kerner and nine points from Tera Chen.
St. Ignatius dropped to 3-2.
No 8 Salesian 58, Miramonte 42
Salesian, playing on the road in Orinda, built a 32-18 halftime cushion and extended the margin to 22 after three quarters on its was to a non-league victory over Miramonte.
Madalyn Kanazawa and Janiya Sawyer each scored 16 points to lead the Pride, which improved to 2-0. Kanazawa added seven assists and three steals.
Karena Eberts had 17 points for Miramonte, which fell to 2-4.

No. 7 Oakland Tech improved to 2-1 with a victory at home over No 12 California, which fell to 5-1.
