Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) boys Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from Jan. 29-Feb. 3.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com.

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

On to the nominees:

Geo Alber, Alhambra basketball: The senior finished with 23 points in the Bulldogs’ 69-57 victory over Miramonte in Diablo Athletic League play. Alhambra finished the week 13-13 overall and 6-6 in the league.

Caleb Asante, Leigh basketball: The senior helped lead the Longhorns to three victories in league play. Scored 23 points in a 61-47 win over Oak Grove, 15 in a 71-69 victory over Christopher and 14 in a 74-53 triumph over Independence as the Longhorns improved to 13-7 overall and 6-4 in the Blossom Valley Athletic League Mt Hamilton Division.

Walker Blake, Bishop O’Dowd soccer: The senior contributed two goals and an assist as the Dragons defeated Castro Valley 4-0 in West Alameda Country Conference Foothill Division play. Also had a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win over Mt. Eden. O’Dowd finished the week 13-2-3, 13-0-1.

Colby Ebner, Acalanes soccer: The junior had a goal in a 2-2 tie against Miramonte and scored two goals in a 3-0 win over Ygnacio Valley as Acalanes upped its record to 8-3-5 overall and 7-1-2 in the Diablo Athletic League.

Elias Galey, Mt. Pleasant basketball: The senior scored 21 points as Mt. Pleasant defeated James Lick 77-47 in a BVAL West Valley Division game. The Cardinals began this week 13-7 overall and 8-1 in the league.

Liam Hare, Bellarmine wrestling: The senior finished first in the 192-pound division at the West Catholic Athletic League championships, helping the Bells capture the team title. He was one of five Bellarmine wrestlers to win individual crowns.

Ethan Kitch, Gunn basketball: The senior scored 32 points on 11-of-16 shooting (69%) as visiting Gunn edged crosstown rival Palo Alto 65-63 in overtime before a packed gymnasium on Saturday night. He also pulled down 10 rebounds in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division game.

Brandon Tran, Yerba Buena basketball: The junior made nine 3-pointers and finished with 39 points as Yerba Buena turned back Overfelt 71-62 in BVAL West Valley Division play. The victory improved Yerba Buena’s record to 4-6 in league play.

Royce Tse, Monta Vista soccer: The junior had a goal and an assist in his team’s 3-0 victory over Saratoga and a goal in a 1-1 tie against Cupertino. The results improved Monta Vista’s record to 7-7-3 overall and 4-4-2 in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League’s El Camino Division.

Dominic Walker, Moreau Catholic basketball: The junior finished with 30 points as Moreau defeated Washington-Fremont 97-79 in a Mission Valley Athletic League game. Also combined for 13 points in wins over Kennedy-Fremont and American as Moreau improved to 17-7, 12-0.
