San Jose police arrested a 19-year-old San Bernardino County resident on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman in February, according to a department press release.

Authorities said that around 2:55 a.m. on Feb. 24 , a woman checked herself into a local hospital and reported being a victim of sexual assault. Police said the woman told officers that she was in her car a few hours earlier in the area of Camden Avenue and Lancaster Drive when she was approached by an unknown man, who sexually assaulted her.

An investigation by the SJPD Sexual Assault Investigations Unit identified Julio Cesar Cortez, 19, as the suspect. Authorities did not release more information Tuesday about how Cortez was identified as the suspect or about the alleged crime.

Cortez was arrested in San Bernardino on Aug. 6 by San Bernardino police. On Aug. 11, he was brought to San Jose and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges related to sexual assault, according to police. He is being held without bail.

San Jose police said that anyone with information about this case or similar cases can contact Detective Corral of the San Jose Police Department Sexual Assault Investigations Unit via email at 3996@sanjoseca.gov or call 408-277-4166.
