Know Your Rights
The Los Gatos Anti-Racism Coalition is hosting a Feb. 7 workshop to inform residents and immigrants about their legal rights when encountering police or federal immigration officials.
After this news organization confirmed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers will be present during the Super Bowl on Feb. 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, the coalition said in an email that they believe it’s important for the community to engage and get involved to prepare for any violent clashes between South Bay residents and federal officials.
The training will be hosted by Amigos de Guadalupe, a San Jose-based nonprofit that focuses on housing support, immigration services and other education and advocacy programs. Through several activities, participants will learn about whistle packing, creating protest signs and how to get involved in local community efforts.
The event will be held on 1:30-4:30 p.m., at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Los Gatos.
Super Bowl viewing
With the Super Bowl coming to the South Bay on Feb. 8, several places in Los Gatos will be open to watch the game.
The Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce will be taking advantage of the Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day by promoting their Los Gatos Perks Pass, a free mobile pass that notifies users of exclusive perks and promotions in town.
Several restaurants will be hosting watch parties for the Super Bowl with deals on food and drinks, like Campo Di Bocce, Coup De Thai, Gardino’s and Pedro’s Restaurant. Double D’s will also be hosting a watch party, but reservations are required.
Other restaurants will also be available to cater for residents’ game day watch parties, including Ace and Olive, The Cats Los Gatos, Heritage Pub, Teleferic Barcelona and Affordable Treasures.
People who want to host a watch party outside of their homes can rent space at Campo Di Bocce, Heritage Pub or Loma Brewing Co.

Firehouse to just a house
The firehouse at 4 Tait Ave. was rezoned for residential use following a town council meeting on Jan. 15, according to an update in Mayor Rob Moore’s newsletter.
The property consisted of a 2,500-square-foot primary building and an ancillary outbuilding that was initially built to be a fire station and was later used as a museum. Both buildings are currently unoccupied.
Los Gatos and Tait Firehouse LLC entered an agreement in 2020, allowing the property to stay in the town’s control and maintaining its historic value. The town was not required to spend any money on the property, but any potential revenue went into the town coffers.
In 2021, the town council proposed rezoning the property from a single-family residential to a central business district to allow the building to be leased for commercial uses, but no viable tenant was found for the space.
The town proposed last year to rezone the property for medium-density residential. The planning commission recommended approving the rezoning in December.
